English Learning Tips for Beginners
The English language is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, which makes it a very important skill to learn. It can help you to communicate when travelling and even improve your chances of employment.
If you want to learn English, but you don’t know where to start, here are three English learning tips for beginners…
- The first step in learning the English language is to familiarise yourself with the alphabet.
It can be useful to listen to children’s learning songs in English to learn each letter of the alphabet, along with examples of words beginning with each letter. This will help with your pronunciation and spelling. You can also learn how to count in the same way. This basic learning strategy is a great place for beginners to start.
- Once you are familiar with the alphabet you can then move on to some simple, every day English words that describe things around you. For example; food, clothes or furniture.
To help you remember these words, add a label to each item and read them aloud each day. Then as you advance, try to include each item into a sentence. For example: “I will have TOAST for breakfast” or “I will wear my HAT today”.
- Spend some time each week listening to English music, television and movies. This is a great way to immerse yourself in the language, without leaving the county! This will also help you with pronunciation and sentence structure. Write down any phrases that you would like to practice or any new words that you do not understand. Learning from real people instead of textbooks will make your English more natural.
